The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is a professional development activity which is free for staff members at the University. It is a postgraduate award course designed to build, and build on, your university teaching experience.

Participants in this year’s course commented:

  • The Grad Cert expands ideas and knowledge about teaching
  • Reflections useful in highlighting how students look at things
  • Assignments were rewarding and useful as well as challenging

And their comments highlighted the value of working with peers, mentioning:

  • The interactions in class
  • Spending time with like minded people
  • Group discussion and the ability to talk to people who work in other contexts

Participants from previous years have found the Grad Cert a valuable career experience:

… the program has helped me find my passion in learning and teaching and apply it to dentistry and make the two work synchronously together.

(Dr Susie Dracopoulos, Faculty of Dentistry)

I am really appreciative of the whole Grad Cert experience…. I am certainly using the skills I was taught, on a daily basis now. I think I was the only casual tutor doing the Grad Cert last year and thanks in a large part to that I think, my career has had a change of direction which I am enjoying immensely.

(Samantha Haley, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences)
