[1B2] Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and ‘fireside chats’ for Courses: Building student’s knowledge and engagement (plus saving time)

Unit coordinators and tutors are often frustrated when their students do not read the syllabus/unit of study outline. Meanwhile, students who are unaware of key details and expectations for their courses may experience reduced learning and success in their coursework. To address these and related challenges, we created a tailored FAQ document to supplement the syllabi, support students, and ideally, save us time answering email queries. In this presentation, we will look at this and another innovation that, together, aimed to build student knowledge and engagement in a large educational sociology course. These two simple tools have shown that students can build their literacy about course operations and content, while sparing us the high volumes of day-to-day student queries.
