[1B3] Flexible authentic assessment to promote group work, enhance communication skills and foster research inquiry

After the FASS Curriculum Sustainability Project, which saw a redesign of our major in French and Francophone Studies, and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the introduction of mixed modes of delivery, I’ve designed a unit of study that had to be adaptable to various language levels, to a variety of university experiences, and to different modes of delivery. In this presentation, I will outline how flexible authentic assessments allowed students to work effectively in groups to develop their communication skills in French but also to pursue unique research interests whilst contributing to their peers’ learning experience.
