First year nursing students often start their degree with a fairly individualised concept of health and a narrow definition of the nursing role. This can make it challenging to engage students in ‘bigger picture’ concepts while translating this information to the clinical context. To optimise student engagement during COVID, and beyond, we reviewed our unit assessments, focusing particularly on authentic team-based assessments. Our goal was to simultaneously apply unit concepts, develop communication skills and embrace the new Create Space studio. This session describes some of the challenges and opportunities encountered in implementing this new assessment, and how you can make this happen in your unit too.
