The inclusion and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages and knowledge systems in curricula is a key element of One Sydney, Many People. It is also a University commitment under the Universities Australia Indigenous Strategy (2022-2025). Often referred to as the Indigenisation of curricula, this process has long been a challenging topic, both at the University and across the sector. This workshop describes historical efforts at the University to strengthen Indigenisation of curricula, the sector-wide context in which those efforts occurred, and the corresponding efforts made at peer institutions. It draws on an analysis of open-source material, as well as internal University reporting and consultation, and seeks to establish a common understanding of where we are, how we got here and provide interactive case studies of best practice for colleagues to explore.
