At UniSA College, a ‘critical AI literacy’ approach was incorporated into an information literacy unit. It involved guiding students in appropriate genAI usage for tasks like refining research questions and enhancing keyword searches. This strategy, while embracing genAI’s potential, also emphasized understanding its limitations and wider social implications. It effectively enhanced students’ AI and critical AI literacy, preparing them for future challenges and countering technology hype. This approach, particularly useful in research-based education, offers valuable insights for educators in diverse contexts.
