[2A3] Engaging consumers and actors to deliver education and assessments in the classroom: a pharmacy case study

In this session, pharmacy educators will describe their experiences in engaging stakeholders (consumers and professionals) and actors to co-design and deliver education and assessments. We will provide an overview of our research-led teaching in this area which has spanned for over a decade and involves partnering with people with lived experience of mental illness to provide students with authentic learning experiences. This has included consumers sharing their personal stories of mental illness, roleplaying scenarios as part of assessments, co-designing scenarios and rubrics, and observing and providing feedback on students’ performance in role-play assessments. Additionally, in 2022 we trained actors to enact scenarios of people experiencing psychosis for role-plays with Mental Health First Aid-trained students, with people with lived experience observing and providing feedback. This presentation aims to showcase the evolution of our approach in working with consumers to design, deliver and evaluate health education. We anticipate the presentation and discussion generated will be of value and interest to other educators who are interested in partnering with stakeholders and end-users of services to develop and deliver authentic educational material that can support students’ learning and meet consumers’ needs.
