Keynote presentation: Andrea Strachan appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students)

Universities are navigating a moment of profound change in how students experience learning, belonging, and wellbeing — and in how educators are asked to respond. This keynote will explore the lived realities of students today and what they mean for teaching practice, academic relationships, and institutional responsibility.

Drawing on sector‑wide insights and experience of leading rapid culture change at the University of Glasgow, Andrea will set out a wellbeing‑first, partnership‑based approach to student engagement that supports both student success and academic practice. The keynote will consider how student life and professional services can be structured to enable educators to teach with care and confidence, without blurring boundaries or placing unsustainable expectations on staff.

Framed around the idea of “care‑full pedagogy,” the session will offer a shared lens for thinking about students, teaching, and support at this moment — and invite educators into a collective conversation about how universities can create conditions in which both students and staff can thrive.
