Interactive Oral Assessments

Tuesday 6 May 2025

Workshop Description: Interactive Oral Assessments (IOAs) provide an alternative secure assessment to traditional examination methods by facilitating authentic, professional conversations that align with disciplinary practice, real-world contexts, and specific learning outcomes. This workshop focuses on the practical applications of IOAs for your teaching context.

We will examine what distinguishes an effective IOA from other oral assessment formats such as vivas or presentations, and investigate how you can evaluate students' learning through structured yet responsive dialogue. The session addresses both unit and program-level outcomes assessment, offering a Lane 1 approach to secured assessment design that maintains academic integrity. This workshop equips coordinators of units of all sizes with practical strategies to implement interactive oral assessments as an effective, secure assessment method within their specific teaching contexts.

This 60 minute session with an optional extra 30 min of for those keen for a deep dive.

This session is designed for anyone interested in using Menti for teaching.  We will aim to introduce you to the basic functions of Menti but also to give you an opportunity to engage with more complex user cases.  We will work with you to explore the features of Menti that will allow you to use it to meaningfully support your teaching.  This session is offered as an online workshop and we look forward to seeing you on Zoom.
