Canvas Accessiblity Course checker

Monday 22 June 2026

This 30 min workshop focuses on the Canvas Accessiblity Course checker. There will be 15mins afterwards for a Q&A.

Canvas has introduced a new Course Accessibility Checker, making it easier to identify and address accessibility issues across your entire course.

The Course Accessibility Checker scans course content and provides a centralised report of accessibility issues found in Pages, Assignments, and Discussions.

The tool can help identify common issues such as:

  1. Missing image alternative text
  2. Incorrect heading structure
  3. Inaccessible tables
  4. Poorly formatted links
  5. Colour contrast issues

Improving accessibility benefits all students by making course materials easier to navigate and engage with, while also helping courses meet accessibility requirements and best-practice standards.

Note: The Course Accessibility Checker reviews content created directly within Canvas. It does not assess the accessibility of uploaded files such as PDFs, Word documents, or PowerPoint presentations. Please be prepared to check a semester 2 unit during this workshop.
