This 90 minute workshop focuses on designing assessments and setting them up in Canvas. The workshop will review the goals of assessment, range of assessment types, how to manage multi-submissions assessments and accommodate multi-modal assessment. We will provide basic technical help to set up your assessments in Canvas to support efficient administration of the marking process. The workshop includes an opportunity to work on your own assignment with support from an Educational Designer.  

We will also make use of the Assessment Design AI assistant that supports you to think about designing assessments with the needs of all your students in mind.

 

Workshop Outline: 

This workshop is for you if you need: 

• Overview of the assessment categories and types
• A brief orientation to assessment features in Canvas 
• Basic technical help setting up assessment groups and assessment tasks. 
  
  

Learning goals: 

• Understand the Canvas features to support assessment 
• Understand the SpeedGrader and Markbook features 
• Awareness of approaches to assessment (Secure - Lane 1, Open - Lane 2, multimodal and multi-submission assessments) 
  
  

We will cover:              

• Considering assessment types and multi-submission and multimodal assessments 
• Setting up assignment groups for weighting in Canvas 
• Creating assessments in Canvas 
• Assessments and your Markbook 
• Formative assignments 
  
  

 

You will have an opportunity throughout the workshop to engage with Canvas functionality. 

There will be an additional 30 minutes added to at the end for some guided implementation of your assessment plan.
