During this event colleagues from around the University will share the<br \/>innovative ways in which they have brought features of the new curriculum alive in their courses. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.sydney.edu.au\/news\/all\/2017\/05\/04\/first-interdisciplinary-project-unit-for-new-curriculum.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first offering<\/a>, students worked in multidisciplinary teams, each bringing their own unique disciplinary perspectives to on projects to tackle projects.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p2\"><b>THRIVE Interdisciplinary Project<br \/>\n<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/business\/staff\/dan.caprar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Dan Caprar<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachaelhainswesson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/Prof Rachael Hains-Wesson,<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/business\/staff\/betina.szkudlarek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Betina Szkudlarek<\/a><br \/>and <a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/business\/staff\/jim.rooney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr James Rooney<\/a><br \/>from the Business School are coordinating this project unit which enables students to<br \/>collaborate with the flagship partner<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/thriverefugeeenterprise.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THRIVE<\/a><br \/>to support and nurture refugee entrepreneurs on their business start-ups for &#8216;real-world&#8217; outcomes. OLE units are available as fully online, zero-credit point components covering topics such as entrepreneurial thinking, persuasive communication, project management and ethical reasoning.<\/p>\n<p>These units are available on-demand and<br \/>are like internal &#8216;MOOCs&#8217;: they will be available to <em>all<\/em> students (and staff!) at the University for <em>free<\/em>. Students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.sydney.edu.au\/teaching-support\/curriculum\/faqs\/open-learning-environment.html#ole-units-and-access\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liberal studies degrees and some specialist degrees<\/a><br \/>can extend these by taking 2 or 6 credit point units which combine fully online study with masterclasses and seminars.<\/p>\n<p>This session will feature some of the<br \/>OLE units that are currently being developed:<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: right; line-height: 150%; padding-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/education-portfolio\/ei\/events\/Innovation%20Week%202017\/930\/\" class=\"sc-button bg-red color-white\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\r\n\t\t\t   \t\t<span>For more information and to register<\/span>\r\n\t\t\t    <\/a><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Student Leadership<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/health-sciences\/about\/people\/profiles\/sarah.lewis.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/Prof Sarah Lewis<\/a> from the Faculty of Health Sciences and a multi-faculty team are developing a set of OLE units to provide students with the theoretical and practical underpinnings for their leadership aspirations and present them with opportunities to develop and practice relevant leadership skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Numbers and <\/strong><span class=\"SpellE\"><strong>Numerics<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/michael.wheatland.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/Prof Mike Wheatland<\/a><br \/>and <a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/tara.murphy.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/Prof Tara Murphy<\/a><br \/>from the School of Physics are developing a pair of zero and two-credit point OLE units to explore the foundation of numerical computing: how numbers are represented and manipulated by computers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Designing Social Media for Digital Influence<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/arts\/slam\/staff\/profiles\/jonathon.hutchinson.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Jonathon Hutchinson<\/a> from Media and Communications in the School of Literature, Arts and Media is developing a pair of zero and six credit point OLE units to explore and expand students&#8217; &#8216;real-world&#8217; strategic social media communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"session3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>3-4 pm: Making the Graduate Qualities<br \/>Real<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2470\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2470\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2470\" src=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/education-portfolio\/ei\/teaching@sydney\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/13793872333_6e9016f80e_o.jpg\" alt=\"Directions CC BY 2.0 flic.kr\/p\/n1VcF4\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2470\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><center><small>Directions CC BY 2.0 flic.kr\/p\/n1VcF4<\/small><\/center><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new curriculum is underpinned by<br \/>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.sydney.edu.au\/teaching-support\/curriculum\/graduate-qualities.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">graduate qualities<\/a>&#8216; which all students will develop during their undergraduate degree, regardless of the disciplines they study. This set of qualities has been designed to equip<br \/>Sydney graduates to succeed, innovate and provide ethical leadership in the contemporary and ever-changing world. The graduate qualities will be embedded in each degree program and, uniquely, their development will be assessed.<\/p>\n<p>This session will feature some of the ways in which teachers are already bringing the graduate qualities to life to reveal<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/education-portfolio\/ei\/teaching@sydney\/graduate-qualities-important\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what the graduate qualities are and why they are important<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div style=\"float: right; line-height: 150%; padding-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/education-portfolio\/ei\/events\/Innovation%20Week%202017\/931\/\" class=\"sc-button bg-red color-white\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\r\n\t\t\t   \t\t<span>For more information and to register<\/span>\r\n\t\t\t    <\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>Embedding cultural competence in the curriculum: the scientific method and evidence-based decisions<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/tom.hubble.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A\/Prof Tom Hubble<\/a> and the team from the School of Geosciences has incorporated indigenous knowledge about country and natural systems into the first-year Introduction to Geology curriculum.<\/li>\n<li><b>Using a blended learning approach to integrating digital literacy : a faculty \/ library partnership<br \/>\n<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/nursing\/staff\/profiles\/jo.river.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Jo River<\/a> from the Sydney Nursing School with Isabelle Raisin and Julia Child from the Library have developed a novel way to develop information literacy.<\/li>\n<li><b>Transforming Communication Education for Students<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/health-sciences\/about\/people\/profiles\/alison.purcell.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Alison Purcell<\/a> and team from the Faculty of Health Sciences have designed the innovative and cost-effective<br \/>&#8216;Accelerate Communication Excellence&#8217;
