{"id":3972,"date":"2017-04-05T10:57:11","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T00:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/education-portfolio\/ei\/teaching@sydney\/?p=3972"},"modified":"2017-05-29T13:39:05","modified_gmt":"2017-05-29T03:39:05","slug":"new-learning-management-system-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/educational-innovation.sydney.edu.au\/teaching@sydney\/new-learning-management-system-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"New learning management system announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"usyd-body-content\">\n<div class=\"usyd-inline-wrap\">\n<div class=\"usyd-page-summary cq-editable-inline-text\">\n<p>The University has signed a contract for our new Learning Management System (LMS), called Canvas, which will be rolled out over 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n<h2>Introducing Canvas<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"usyd-inline-wrap usyd-body-content\">\n<div class=\"usyd-no-wrap\">\n<div class=\"usyd-figure usyd-figure-large \">Canvas is a cloud-based LMS developed by <a class=\"usyd-js-load\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instructure.com\/about\">Instructure<i class=\"icon-link-ext\"><\/i><\/a>, whose products are used by more than 2000 universities and school districts around the world. A major benefit for staff and students is that Canvas can be used readily online, on mobile and on tablet.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cCanvas is the fastest growing LMS globally with more than 18 million users. Major universities currently using Canvas include Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, Yale and, in Australia, Adelaide,\u201d said Professor Adam Bridgeman, Director of Educational Innovation in the Education Portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been looking at a new LMS since the second part of 2016, and we conducted a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation across a range of criteria, from the very technical to the platform\u2019s look and feel,\u201d added Professor Bridgeman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"usyd-grid-wrap\">\n<div class=\"usyd-small usyd-figure usyd-quote-clip\">\n<div class=\"usyd-figure-caption\">\n<blockquote>[The new LMS] has huge significance for our educational goals and for the student and staff experience.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"usyd-inline-wrap usyd-body-content\">\n<p>\u201cThe <a class=\"usyd-js-load\" href=\"https:\/\/intranet.sydney.edu.au\/news\/all\/2016\/11\/21\/rate-our-new-learning-management-system.html\">whole University community was involved in choosing the new LMS<\/a>, with staff engaged in detailed scenario testing, and students and all staff invited to participate in usability testing.
