As part of\u00a0Sydney’s 2016 Innovation Week<\/a>, the Library, Educational Innovation and ICT invite staff and students to Future Ed.<\/p>\n

Future Ed invites you to drop-in to explore, create, and discuss the future of education and how new technologies might be\u00a0part of this. You will\u00a0also be able to register for hands-on introductory workshops\u00a0on 3D printers, carving machines and more.<\/h3>\n

Hosted in\u00a0ThinkSpace<\/a>,\u00a0the Library\u2019s new creative space, students and staff can experience virtual reality headsets, robots and 3D printers. Described as something of a ‘petting-zoo’ for new\u00a0technologies, Future Ed not only showcases educational tools but allows staff and students from across the university to\u00a0meet, mix and collaborate. The Future Ed event hopes to provide a space for\u00a0staff and students to\u00a0develop innovative solutions\u00a0to current and future projects.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a03D printers, a desktop carving machine, and graphic design facilities\u00a0are also a range of computers and other technologies. Future Ed will be\u00a0supported by\u00a0a\u00a0team of Peer Learning Advisers (PLAs), who are student heralding from disciplines across the University. They are there to help visitors use technology, like the VR and Occulus Rift headsets, the HP Sprout 3D scanner and the 3D printers. Come and see how technology is used to augment and enhance experiential learning and research-led teaching.<\/p>\n

Wearable Electronics<\/h3>\n

In this workshop Mitch Bryson<\/a>, from the Australian Centre for Field Robotics<\/a>, will give you an overview of the world of electronic wearables and soft electronics, and introduce you to basic concepts in electronics, programming and sewing that allow them to make an electronic softie. You will build a small electronic softie project: a rainbow flower that you can take away at the end of the day. In the process, you will learn about the Arduino open\u2010source electronics platform, fabric and stitch electronic circuits, including conductive thread and how to control basic electronic components like a colourful LED.<\/p>\n
