In line with this commitment, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Guide: Enhancing the learning experiences of students from equity backgrounds<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provides a valuable resource <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for educators looking to get started with equity-focused teaching practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recently released<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.gov.au\/australian-universities-accord\/resources\/final-report\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australian Universities Accord Final Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> highlights the need for action on equity in higher education. It is written in accessible language and provides case-based examples to illustrate key concepts and strategies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The strategies and principles in the Green Guide are applicable to educators in various settings who are committed to creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Green Guide offers evidence-based strategies and actionable steps for engaging students from equity backgrounds, covering areas such as learning design, teaching methods, and classroom dynamics, all focused on creating inclusive and supportive educational environments.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An equitable approach to teaching and learning is centred on creating a learning environment that values diversity and embraces the strengths of every student.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Key practices of this approach include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>getting to know and respecting your students<\/li>\n<li>offering flexibility, variety, and choice, and using examples and contexts which are representative of all students<\/li>\n<li>making expectations clear through accessible language<\/li>\n<li>scaffolding students\u2019 learning<\/li>\n<li>being available and approachable<\/li>\n<li>fostering a sense of belonging among students<\/li>\n<li>practising reflective teaching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We encourage educators to try implementing just one new strategy from the guide each semester. A number of printed copies are also being distributed to faculties and schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make content in the resource easier to access and apply, the Educational Innovation team has developed a chat-based artificial intelligence (AI) agent that provides <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">personalised responses based on the guide.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you have a specific question about equitable teaching practices or want to explore the content in a more interactive way, you can chat with the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/app.cogniti.ai\/login\/?next=https:\/\/app.cogniti.ai\/agents\/6668e63ab02f822252e3f554\/chat?k%3Dm49oR8XWLaEnFEcP4sTJXEnxeCR5BBQAh3cTyLXtvmw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Guide AI Agent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Collaborative effort<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The development of the Green Guide has been a collaborative effort across the University, involving a number of co-authors, expert reviewers, and academic and professional staff who shared their experiences. Student readers also provided input through candid and constructive feedback, ensuring the guide\u2019s relevance and accessibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you to the many colleagues who shared their experiences, insights and innovative practices in supporting students from equity backgrounds.
