New tools are being developed to assist with learning at an increasing rate. Concerningly, many of these tools are marketed on the premise that they can make learning easier and/or more efficient. An extensive body of research demonstrates that the most effective learning often occurs when students encounter challenging and difficult learning experiences. This presentation will examine the research on the tension between increasingly engaging technologies and the demands of high-quality learning. The presentation will conclude with practical strategies on how to help students engage in self-regulated learning when using technologies such as AI.

About Jason

Professor Jason Lodge is the Director of the Learning, Instruction, and Technology Lab and Professor of Educational Psychology in the School of Education at The University of Queensland.
